True independent artist status cannot be achieved while one is a prisoner of the streaming platforms. This was the great lie that captured “independent” artists. Only now are they awakening to their bonds, just in time to watch as their blood, sweat, and tears are replicated by AI and sold in a cruel mockery.

Spotify, Apple Music, You Tube, and others left themselves wide open for AI thievery by Suno and Udio. Now AI floods their markets and is pushing out the humans. None of these platforms will even require an upfront labeling of AI music. The big record labels are condoning the scraping and theft, as long as they get a piece of the action, leaving indies bereft of compensation or remedy. This is at best the workings of a morally reprehensible new music mafia.

Though Bandcamp has “banned” AI, it finds itself inundated because of delayed action, and is not testing files at the point entry. Instead, they are relying on an accusatory customer reporting system. Thus, unlike Pure Human Music (PHM), they will never be AI free.
